I cannot even begin to put into words how amazing Dr. Lawson is, but I will try! I have been clenching my teeth at night for a number of years, but had never experienced any difficulties as I wore a mouthguard. In December 2013, however, I began to experience jaw pain which progressed over the course of two weeks to the point that I was barely able to open my mouth due to the pain. I live outside of Manitoba, so I initially sought medical attention from so-called specialists in my province. Over the course of 5 months, I spent thousands of dollars on physiotherapy, x-rays, 2 mouth guards, and consultations in an effort to reduce my pain. Although there was some slight improvement in my pain and range of motion, my jaw was still not “normal”. Moreover, I began to experience “lock jaw” upon waking in the morning. I had to continuously attempt to open and close my mouth for several minutes in order to “pop” my jaw back into place. No one knew what was wrong with my jaw, or how to resolve my symptoms. It got to the point where the dentists/specialists did not know what to do for me and I was being referred for a surgical consultation. I am originally from Winnipeg and was making a trip home when someone suggested that I see Dr. Lawson for another opinion. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical as to whether he would be able to help me as I had no luck in the past with the other dentists/specialists, however, I am delighted to tell you that I could not have been more wrong! After looking at my x-rays, Dr. Lawson knew EXACTLY what was wrong with my jaw and how to fix it. He ordered a different kind of mouthguard for me than I had previously had (it has a flange which keeps my jaw forward and prevents me from clenching my teeth at night). My jaw has not locked AT ALL since using this mouthguard! Additionally, my pain is essentially non-existent. Dr. Lawson and his staff have been absolutely amazing in all aspects! They have been incredibly accommodating of my schedule (which is obviously quite restricted due to living out of province), and have been so patient in answering all of my questions. I appreciate that Dr. Lawson lets me speak and actively listens to my concerns; he has a great bedside manner which can be difficult to find. It is quite evident that Dr. Lawson cares about his patients. He has taken time on his days off to meet with me when I am in town and has followed up with me after appointments to ensure that my jaw is doing well and the mouthguard is fitting properly. I would 110% recommend Dr. Lawson. He has literally saved me and I could not be more thankful. Thank you Dr. Lawson!!!
